Witches' Salts: Types, Uses, and How-Tos
Salt is one of the most important key ingredients in spellwork. It is a purifier, a neutralizer, an amplifier and ultimately it is critical to keep a few types in your Witchcraft Apothecary for basic use.
Uses for Salt
Use salt in Jar Spells, such as Honey Jars, Protection Jars, and Money Jars for a dose of “flow”, cleansing, and peace. Create circles with salt around your spellwork to contain the energy to the work surface and lit candles.
Salt can be used in the four corners of the home to absorb negative energy and as a protective measure to keep negativity out and at bay.
Salt can be used in a Spiritual Bath for an extra level of energetic cleansing and neutralization of any negativity or negative energy.
Salt can be poured over spell remains or finished egg cleanses to purify any negativity before disposal.
Types of Salt
Table Salt - Table Salt can be used in place of almost any salt in a pinch. It is low-cost and widely available. Its energy is good for cleansing, clearing, and neutralizing. A witch may combine table salt with other ingredients to craft Pink, Green, or Black Salts listed below for spellwork as needed.
Sea Salt - Sea Salt (flaky or coarse varieties) is a connection to the ocean’s power through a crystalline ingredient. It has many more of Earth’s minerals than regular table salt and has a deeper connection to the natural world. Sea Salt is good for cleansing, purifying, clearing, uncrossing, and neutralizing. Sea Salt is best for baths, using in the 4 corners of the home, and can be used as a blended ingredient in Pink, Green, or Black Salts.
Pink Salt - Himalayan Pink Salt has a naturally pinkish hue due to the mineral content of where it is harvested from and tends to have a saltier taste than the previous salts listed. This salt is wonderful for spells of love and friendship or sweetening works. It can also be used in the home to amplify love, peace, and sweetness. You can make a pink salt using sea salt or table salt and blending with rose petals and lavender.
Green Salt - Green Salt is a blend of sea salt or table salt with basil, mint, catnip, rosemary, or other green herbs of your liking. The herbs can be dried or fresh, but it is best practice to dry the salt before using, if fresh herbs are used. Green Salt can be used in spells for abundance, luck, prosperity, money, and success. It’s recommended to blend these ingredients in a mortar and pestle while speaking your intent over the blend.
Black Salt - Black Salt (sometimes called “Witches Salt”) is a blended salt that is almost exclusively used for protection, but can also be used in banishing or occasionally baneful spells or rituals. Depending on intent, it is made with the ash of burnt herbs or petitions, crushed egg shells, and sea salt or table salt. Keep in small vessels by the entrance of your home as a protective shield, to keep negativity out of the home, and make a ring around protection candles before lighting to amplify their protective properties.
